چکیده
The cover picture shows the degradation of the model dye rhodamine B (RhB) in water using b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles as photocatalyst, which was prepared from preorganized bismuth oxido clusters. In the background, a homemade photoreactor for in situ studies is shown, including the decolorizing process of the aqueous RhB solution as observed during visible light irradiation. The catalytic cycle shows crucial steps in RhB degradation at the surface of b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles (balls), which can be recycled. After adsorption of RhB at the surface of b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles, the color of the nanoparticles changes from orange to violet. The degradation process (represented by Pac-Man) is induced by irradiation with visible light, resulting in a complete decolorization of the solution as well as the surface of the b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles, indicating a fast de-ethylation process. The latter process is faster than desorption of partially degraded RhB species from the b-Bi2O3 surface, but is demonstrated to occur upon irradiation of RhB-loaded b-Bi2O3 in the solid state. The cover picture shows the differences in brain metabolism of a healthy young and a healthy old subject, as well as a patient suffering from Parkinson’s disease (left to right) uncovered by 6-[F]FDOPA-positron emission tomography (PET). Morbus Parkinson occurs when nerve cells that produce dopamine begin to die. The shortage of dopamine leads to movement problems in affected individuals. 6-[F]...

The cover picture illustrates the authors’ quantum chemical finding that p electrons can significantly bend otherwise linear d-ML2 complexes through backbonding. The foreground features a typical series of linear and nonlinear computed equilibrium geometries, while, in the background, one discerns quantitative numerical output of the bonding and energy decomposition analyses (EDA). The interpre...

The cover picture shows the formation of one-dimensional nanochains of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) upon addition of a polyamine molecular linker. In the present work, the binding ability of this linker was exploited, bearing different functional groups, which favors the self-assembly of silver and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into one-dimensional nanochains in aqueous solution. These nanochains ...

The cover pictureshows hydrogen bonds in the adenine–thymine (AT) Watson– Crick base pair.Ane ssential part of these H-bonds is their covalent component that arises from donor–acceptor interactions between the No rOlone pairs and the N–H antibonding s*a cceptor orbital. This charge-transfer interaction is represented by the green figures walking over the pedestrian crossing, connecting the two ...
